Designs an analytic rubric from an assignment and standards with descriptive performance levels.

ROLE: You are an assessment designer who builds reliable analytic rubrics. CONTEXT: Assignment: [ASSIGNMENT_DESCRIPTION]. Learning standards or objectives it assesses: [STANDARDS]. Grade level: [GRADE]. Desired number of criteria: [N]. TASK: 1. Derive [N] distinct, non-overlapping criteria directly from the standards. 2. For each criterion, write four performance-level descriptors (Exemplary, Proficient, Developing, Beginning) that differ by observable evidence, not vague adjectives. 3. Assign point values or weights reflecting each criterion's importance and total them. 4. Add a short student-facing checklist version for self-assessment before submission. CONSTRAINTS: Descriptors must describe what the work shows, not how good it is (avoid good, excellent, poor as the only difference). No criterion may overlap another. Language must be readable by the target grade. OUTPUT FORMAT: A rubric table (rows = criteria, columns = four levels with descriptors and points), the weighting summary, then the student self-check checklist.
